"Off To College"
Son, I remember well how your mother cried,
When you were just a little feller and took
your first school bus ride.
A lump came in my throat too because we both knew,
We were just beginning to say good-by to you.
Now the years have came and flown,
Here you are a handsome young man grown.
And we will have to admit I'm afraid,
Mothers crying and I'v got a lump in my throat
just like the day you started first grade.
It's a sad, glad, proud mixed up day,
When your son is off to college for a good long stay.
Oh, you'll be home to visit, and that will be just great.
For at our table you'll always have a plate.
You are bursting with pride at your independent state,
And we wish you all the luck in the world and hope
everything goes first rate.
We had you in our home a few short years,
And enjoyed it all, laughter, sickness, heartache, and tears.
And if you should ever get tired and weary (don't smile)
Just come on home son, come on home and rest a while.
Love Dad.
